In the past few days, as we move into double figures, I’ve been trying to think of new and interesting ways to get people to look at the site. (Or “drive traffic to it”, as I might say were I a serious businessman, and were this a serious business instead of a silly website with some hats on it.) Unfortunately, I am not exactly a natural born self-promoter, and the webcomics field is more competitive than the open kennels at the start of mating season.

So, I’ve joined all the webcomic related websites I can find (most of them are now linked in the “Webcomic resources” category I’ve added on the right), spammed a lot of Facebook friends with “suggestions” that they should join the Behatted Facebook fan page (AND SO SHOULD YOU) and written an entry for Behatted on the “Comixpedia”. I did consider starting one for Wikipedia as well, but I hear that if you create a Wikipedia page about your own product, the web police come to your house with batons and pound your hands apart until you can no longer type anything that might offend them.

So, anyway, I need some ideas. A few more entries (Say twenty? Thirty?) and I might consider paying actual money for advertising on a website somewhere, but there must be some way of pulling together some grass roots action. Maybe I should start leaving hats in strange places all over the UK? Business cards? Posters? It’s a scary world out there, and I need to stand out somehow. I thought that the hat photos/MS Paint backgrounds combo would be enough to make people think “Okay, he’s pretty odd,” but perhaps not.

Ah, never mind. I’ll think of something. It’s just, at times like this, I wish I was more of an arrogant arsehole. Good morning. It’s 9:40 in the AM, and I’m just pasting text into the editor that lives up the backside of the Behatted blog for the sixth episode of The Weekly Hat. It’s been an unusually exciting week for Behatted’s real world-based cousin, as we’ve obtained both http://www.weeklyhat.com and http://www.theweeklyhat.com and pointed them all at our luscious new Weekly Hat homepage. Oh, the Weekly Hat also now has its own RSS feed and Twitter account, for domain-squatting purposes if nothing else. I’m not sure how much use the Twitter account will get, as my brain hurts enough just keeping something going on my personal account and my Behatted account, but there will at least be announcements of new releases and so forth.

Anyway, I shall shut up with the internet rubbish. Time to outline the contents of this week’s ladle of warmed-over jokes…

• Dying in colour: One last time for Mister Jackson, then I promise I’ll never mention him again. If only the mainstream media would do the same.

  • The cricket-pop of the Duckworth Lewis Method: New band! New album! I saw them live!
  • Torchwood of Earth: The worst science fiction programme on television returns, and… is quite good. Uh-oh.
• Behatted Photo Of The Week: No sports section this week, but we can still cheer on our boys.
• Next week: The future is cloudy. (With chances of rain.)

Hi there.

The house move was successful and I come to you from my new room. Admittedly, I have a very restricted amunt of floor space due to the city of boxes that surround me, but I did at least successfully make my bed and lie in it. At 5:30AM after a couple of false starts.

So, now that we’ve got past that interruption, a quick alert for next week’s reason why the Weekly Hat might be late: I am on holiday from next Saturday until the following one. And hence, I will need to get the Weekly Hat pre-prepared to an even greater extent than usual. It should be possible, but will require planning. And the one after that… may be very late, very short or very non-existent. We’ll see.

But for now, this week’s well-timed burbles:

It’s still just about the morning, so it must be about time I published the Weekly Hat for the week. Luckily, since I spend a lot of time on Twitter, it’s been fairly easy to find stories this week, as a frankly alarming proportion of the news seems to be happening… on Twitter. Weird!

Weekly Hat time! It wasn’t too difficult to write this week, happily. Stuff must have been easy. Plus I’ve had the whole week off, so I’ve been fairly calm and work has come easy.

Just for the record, in case a big news story breaks and I appear to have ignored it, this is being written on Saturday morning, as I’m back in Essex for this evening and most of Sunday. Hopefully the auto-post will serve me as well as it did on my holiday. Oh, and if you want more writings by me, I have a new blog thing which is called Feeding The Black Dog. Just one more quick plug for anyone who doesn’t read the Behatted newsposts.
