Weekly Hat VIII

Hello.

If you take a careful look at this week’s Weekly Hat, you may note it is a shade shorter than usual. Although, to be fair, it’s still around 1,500 words, which is a few. But yes, after finding that producing this and Behatted is sucking every drop of free time I have, I’ve decided forcing myself to cover three news stories a week was a bit much. I have novel manuscripts to edit that I’ve been ignoring for too long. However, I do enjoy doing this, and it shall carry on. Just not at quite as much length.

(Not to mention, the news at the moment isn’t all that inspiring. When looking for topics, I have the choice of… swine flu? Or Michael Jackson? Or MP expenses? Or how about some swine flu or Michael Jackson?)

So, what’s in the new, improved, slightly shorter Weekly Hat?

  • Politics, as usual: The Norwich by-election may be the most exciting thing ever to happen. (Not really.)
  • They keep killing: Some other news stories, covered in short shortness, as most of them have been done before.
  • Media and stuff: Moon? Season Of Secrets? Horehound? Posthumous advertising by Bob Monkhouse?
  • Behatted Photo Of The Week: The ‘Next week’ section may have gone, but this bit is forever.

Weekly Hat XIII

Good morning.

Back to the regular time slot this week after being pre-empted by the V festival last week. Unfortunately, we have a string of weekends coming up where I’m moving house, going on holiday and doing other busying things, so more jiggering about with the Weekly Hat schedule might follow. We’ll have to wait and see.

In the meantime, due to the worrying lack of genuine news I could find to write about, the sports section has been promoted to first place (freaky, I know), and everything else relegated to bullet points. We’re also covering the problems of Oasis, in a nice continuance from last week’s episode when I was denied the chance to see them at V. Sound exciting? Well, that’s because it is.

Precise table of contents follows…

  • And now first, sports: Well, kinda sports-related. Cheating, hooliganism and other things that give sport a bad name. Yes, that’s what it takes to get the sport moved upfront.
  • Look what happened!: The rest of this week’s news, in bullet points. Tabloid headlines! BBC abused by evil empire! GCSE results! Kidnap!
  • Media and stuff: I wrote a perfectly good media section about light television programmes, and then Oasis imploded. Typical.
  • Behatted Photo Of The Week: Oasis homage photo thing!

Weekly Hat XIV

Hi there.

The house move was successful and I come to you from my new room. Admittedly, I have a very restricted amunt of floor space due to the city of boxes that surround me, but I did at least successfully make my bed and lie in it. At 5:30AM after a couple of false starts.

So, now that we’ve got past that interruption, a quick alert for next week’s reason why the Weekly Hat might be late: I am on holiday from next Saturday until the following one. And hence, I will need to get the Weekly Hat pre-prepared to an even greater extent than usual. It should be possible, but will require planning. And the one after that… may be very late, very short or very non-existent. We’ll see.

But for now, this week’s well-timed burbles:

  • Liquid Love: Terrorists arrested! Destroy my chances of having a drink on a plane! Ages ago! Trial recently! Thus current!
  • Utter balls?: Derren Brown predicts the lottery. And then pretends he actually did predict the lottery.
  • Media and stuff: Theatre! Rap! Facebook! How unusual!
  • Behatted Photo Of The Week: A reward for a true winner. Well, if you count featuring here as a “reward”.

Weekly Hat XVIII

Hello there.

This week’s Weekly Hat… started off as a fairly banal ramble about politics and ended up as a lengthy two-part ramble about British society through the lovely filter of The Sun newspaper. It’s nowhere near as pretentious as it sounds, honest.

Meanwhile, I went to Thorpe Park yesterday with my sister, and experienced various rides including the Saw movie-based ride. Never seen a Saw movie in my life, but the ride was quite fun. Perhaps even scary at times. Also went on Nemesis: Inferno, the spin-off ride, Stealth and various others. As ever, the best time to go on big theme park rides is the end of the day, when queues due down slightly and staff start shoving people through quicker to try and go home on time.

See, useful advice already. Now, the hat-content…

Weekly Hat XXI

Guten morgen. A surplus of news in the Weekly Hat this week, including yet more from President Obama, the moon and the Conservatives. (Two of those things are more interesting than the other.) So, yes, we have three news stories, though they’re all of a kinda middling length, rather than the usual one huge and one middling.

So, let’s crack on with the table of contents, as I’m not allowing myself to eat breakfast until I’ve got this done, and I’m pretty damn hungry.
